Needlepoint is Not Just Your Grandmother’s Passion Anymore

Needlepoint of Aspen opened it’s doors recently on Mill Street next to American National Bank. You’ll be seeing and hearing about them this summer in Aspen Peak, Scout Guide and Aspen Sojourner.

The owner, a long-time client of mine, started to needlepoint at the age of 8 and has dreamed of owning a needlepoint business ever since.

We searched for the perfect space for her new endeavor and in December 2015 located a spot with great exposure via foot traffic. John Galambos of Galambos Architects creatively crafted this now cozy and inviting space. It is currently Aspen’s only resource for needlepoint supplies, products and instruction.

Alexa offers private instruction, group instruction and invites guests to make themselves at home in the store and join in the needlepointing. She features many well-known artists in the needlepoint community like Kate Dickerson, Jilly Walsh, Scott Church and Melissa Shirley. Well-known artist Vicki Sawyer will visit Aspen in July and Whimsy and Grace have tentatively scheduled a trunk show for mid June through early July.

The best part of my client’s story is that she sincerely wanted to contribute to our community by offering something beyond the typical Aspen retail trends. I wish her great success and admire her courage to pursue her dream.

Stop by during your next stroll through town.

Life is short, “Follow your passion!”
