Aspen’s New Hot Spot: Hooch

The owners of the very successful Meat and Cheese restaurant have quietly opened a new spot for cocktails catering to the local Aspen crowd.

Wendy Mitchell saw an opportunity to open a cozy neighborhood-type bar in the space next to The Aspen Cooking School underneath her current restaurant. Her concept attracted several of the most talented cocktail specialists in Aspen to her team to create a unique lounge experience.

If you are familiar with Meat and Cheese, you will recognize Wendy’s penchant for great atmosphere and quality offerings. Hooch offers specialty cocktails that are creative and artistic. Additionally, 10 craft beers are offered and will change seasonally. They offer a light food menu compatible with the world farm house cuisine. Go with turkey meatballs for the table!

The basement space definitely has a “speakeasy” feel. You will not find yourself yelling over the music or being bumped around by younger hipsters. There are multiple seating spaces that allow for private conversations but the bar is definitely the attraction. The crowd is an interesting mix; older and younger all playing together nicely. By 10pm, the place is packed and I am in bed.

During off season, days of operation will be limited to Wednesday through Saturday but by June 1, they will be open 7 days a week.

Cheers!
